After my mother was discharged from the Heart Hospital, I went to the JFK Clinic to get my mother's medication from the pharmacy, but they were closed. I came back to my mother's room because I forgot something, and Sterling Smith asked if I had gotten the medicine. When I told him that I did not, he made several phone calls to see what he could do because the weekend was coming, and my mother would not get the medicine until Monday. The medicine was very important for her to take.
Even after the head nurse told him there was nothing they could do, Sterling continued making phone calls so that we could get the medicine. Eventually, the hospital's pharmacy said they could give the medicine. When Sterling saw that I was confused by the directions to get to the pharmacy to pick up the medication, he went out of his way to walk me there himself. He even stayed until I got the medicine. I was very impressed with and grateful to Sterling for taking the time, even though my mother was discharged, and he did not have the duty to make sure my mother got her medication.
Sterling showed compassionate care, exceptional service, and commitment to excellence that day; my mother and I sincerely hope that he will be rewarded for his hard work and kindness. Being in a hospital is difficult for patients and their families, but it is made easier when the medical team is caring and compassionate like Sterling was to us. Please thank him again for his service from us. He truly is a wonderful nurse.
