Sue demonstrates compassion and competency in her daily work. Sue's dedication to her work and her nursing career can be demonstrated in several examples. Sue has been a leader in establishing competencies at the System level for Pediatric Nursing, Chemotherapy, and many other med-surg nursing skill sets. She has been actively involved at the System level in development, review, and standardization of all the med-surg policies and procedures. Currently, Sue is leading an initiative in which there are over 200 policies that are being standardized by March 1. She works to collaborate with other nursing leaders and peers around the country to review and seek best practices and then provide recommendations.
Sue currently has 2 certifications in both Pediatrics and Intravenous Nursing. Both of these certification specialties have only a handful of people certified in the CHI Health System. She has been a role model for seeking these certifications and has mentored and assisted many nurses in pursuing their clinical competency in these areas.
The other aspect of Sue is her compassion and professionalism when it comes to the care of our patients. Sue has been known to come in during the evening and night to administer chemotherapy to a patient who is on a regimented time schedule. Sue does this without blinking an eye or asking for any kind of acknowledgment that she is even doing this. Sue comes in on a regular basis to administer another patient's outpatient chemo at 10 pm. Sue has also just completed her year as chair of the Practice Partnership Team in which she led this group of fellow nursing staff through a reorganization of the agenda and format of our meetings. Sue has also been the chair of the Operations Performance Team and is one of the first to raise her hand when there is a clinical question or project to tackle.
