Susan has worked at Newton Medical Center for over twenty years, and the most astounding part is that she has only worked the night shift. Susan is a support to all the nurses on the night shift. I worked nights with Susan years ago, and she embodies professionalism with her reliability, demeanor, organizational skills, and her ability to handle stressful situations in a calm poised manner. Working nights, you need to be self-directed and have the capacity to function as a team. I think of Sue as a silent leader of the night shift and the cohesive glue that holds the team together. Staff members from days or nights feel comfortable coming to her with any issues or concerns.
Susan is an excellent nursery nurse and has the remarkable ability to put new mothers and fathers at ease. If only those babies could read and talk they would be writing and shouting about the excellent care they have received from Sue Calvert at Newton Medical Center.
One of Sue's responsibilities is to complete the night shift schedule. Recently in our unit, we had two nurses on night shift resign and one nurse who has been out on an extended leave of absence, therefore it is a challenging feat on many days to staff the unit. However, I never hear Sue complain, she has worked many extra shifts and convinced several of her co-workers to pick up some extra shifts, talk about teamwork. Susan, thank you for all that you do!
