A 2-month infant hospital stay was cared for by Susan in an exceptional, generous way. The infant's mom was a single, advanced maternal age mom who worked full time and had many social issues. Mom was ultimately hospitalized during the week that the baby was ready to go home, delaying discharge. On the day of discharge, neither the primary or associate nurse for the baby were working. The nurses in the NICU took a team approach the day both mom and baby were discharged, to make sure mom and baby were able to go home with the mother feeling emotionally secure in knowing she had the tools to really take care of her preterm infant. Susan had never had the patient before and was called in, and went to Walgreens on the way in to work to pick up a critical medication so the baby could go home. Sue spent hours going over parent teaching because mom felt overwhelmed and could not remember all of the parent teaching that had previously been taught. This reinforced what needed to be done for the baby at home. Sue is an exceptional RN with a caring attitude for both her patients and her co-workers. Sue truly listens with her heart and ears! This is one of those little things that made a big difference to this parent.
