I had a patient who was postpartum, first-time mother in the ICU who was too unstable to transport to the newborn nursery to visit her baby. She had not seen her baby since delivery two days prior. I called down to the newborn nursery and spoke to Tamara Blakely. She was taking care of my patient's newborn.
Tamara went above and beyond to make sure my patient was able to visit with her newborn. She demonstrated dedication by ensuring that this woman was able to spend time with her baby. She was accommodating by bringing the baby from the nursery to ICU and staying for over 45 minutes while my patient was able to feed her baby for the first time. Tamara demonstrated the highest integrity while spending time with mother and baby in the ICU. She was supportive of the mother in the ICU, she listened to her concerns, taught her how to feed her baby, and ensured my patient that her daughter was well taken care of in the nursery.
Tamara made this visit to the ICU from the nursery a top priority. From the second Tamara brought my patient's daughter into the room, my patient's face lit up and she smiled for the first time all day. Tamara spent time away from her other duties to allow my patient quality time with her baby. Thank you, Tamara, for making this happen.
