Theresa admitted our daughter on transfer after more than 72 days already in the hospital from Toledo by mobile life squad. She was warm, kind, empathetic and soft-spoken. She was equally just as careful and thorough in understanding our daughter's unusual and rare condition. She never made us feel rushed or was she ever impatient. She has a gentle touch and calm approach that was also disarming.
Theresa asked "genuine" questions about our daughter and her condition. She looked at photos, talked about our family and even wrote our daughter a handwritten note to say "good-bye" when it was time for us to discharge. My daughter is hospitalized a lot and never has a nurse handwritten a note to tell her goodbye.
Theresa was very knowledgeable! She understood our daughter's complex medications, helped us to obtain new Rx for our long drive home and was incredibly thorough in helping ensure the safety of our daughter for both our hospital stay and the trip home.
Aside from the quiet and soft-spoken demeanor of this outstanding nurse, she also went above and beyond to ensure our daughter's comfort, sometimes the "little things" are the "big things" like turning down the lights to rest, not waking her up for procedures, meds or Rx unless necessary, if it meant her rest would be compromised or again - writing a handwritten note to say goodbye because our daughter was sleeping when her shift ended and she didn't want to wake her up to say farewell!
Theresa fortunately (or maybe unfortunately for her!) had an absolute mountain of things to put into motion for our discharge, unusual meds, insurance details, discharge plans that are anything but the "norm", tube feedings and on and on I could go. She ensured every question, every detail and continued on with her gently calm approach and made sure all our questions were carefully answered. It must be said, although not asked, that this nurse, Theresa, was also a superlative "Ambassador" for CCHMC. Speaking so highly of your facility, her love for her work, colleagues and Cincinnati Children's. When you think of the true meaning and heart of a "Florence Nightingale" nurse - a visual picture of Theresa comes to mind. What a superstar. Cincinnati Children's is blessed to have her.
