Teri-Ann Webb demonstrates all aspects of a DAISY Award honoree. On an otherwise normal day, Teri-Ann received a cysto/turbt post-op. This patient was originally supposed to be a same day procedure but they ended up admitting him for pain. Teri-Ann got him settled and continued with her normal routine. The patient was having lots of bladder spasms. Teri-Ann made him a priority. She gave him medicine to help with the spasms. This only helped for a little while. She knew that there had to be something going on. She proceeded to flush his catheter and ended up removing lots of clots. She called the doctor and got a CBI ordered. After all this was set up, the patient said the pain had subsided a little. Teri-Ann then continued to check on him every 15 minutes because of her concern for this patient. She started to notice his level of conscious was changing. She asked how he was and he said that he just didn’t feel right. Teri-Ann immediately called a Rapid Response because she instinctively knew there was something seriously wrong. As soon as the team arrived, the patient coded. He was bleeding internally. The team stabilized and transferred him to the ICU, where he received multiple transfusions.
Teri-Ann demonstrated her exemplary observational and clinical skills as well as her compassion for the patient and family in this time of need. She had excellent communication skills with her team, the doctors and family. Teri-Ann consistently provides amazing service every day.
