I have two jobs : full time here at MMC and per diem at a nursing rehab. I was working at the rehab center and I got in report that my resident came from the hospital wearing a Holter monitor. While talking to the resident I asked him which floor he came from at the hospital. He said "R7." I was able to tell him that I also work there and his eyes lit up. He instantly started smiling and said, "That's where Tina works and she is awesome." He then told me about the amazing care he received from her. We chatted for a bit and then I said goodbye, so I could resume my duties.
Later that evening while rushing around in the dining room, I heard someone whisper my name. I turned around and there was Tina. I hugged her and said, "What are you doing here?" She said she came to visit the resident I had been taking care of. Puzzled, I asked, "Do you know this gentleman other than from the hospital?"
She replied, "No, I took care of him for three days at the hospital. His son lives six hours away. He has no clothes or toiletries so I went out and bought him some."
Taken aback by this I then asked, "Why would you do that? That is so nice!"
She said, "Because if it was my Dad, I hope someone would do the same."
I then got goosebumps. Tina had only known this man for three days. She went and did all this for someone she had just met. Tina is an amazing nurse. I'm sure this is not the first or the last time she has ever done this. It's this kind of commitment to her patients that makes her a DAISY Nurse.
