Some patients are exceedingly anxious after surgery. This makes taking care of them very difficult. Nurse Roebuck has an air of polished self-assurance and skillful professionalism which comforts patients. One particular patient who had multiple surgeries and suffers from a chronic illness was at the end of her rope. She was depressed and in pain. Traci confidently reassured her that everything was going well and that she will take good care of her. The patient trusted her and regained her composure. This ability to comfort without being obsequious is something that is very hard to learn. I have seen only a few seasoned nurses give solace. The patient did well and was very appreciative of nurse Roebuck's care.
