I recently floated to MICU and took care of a patient with a very taxing, difficult family. Vera was very helpful! The patient I was caring for was very ill and required 1:1 care. She made a point to frequently check on me, get me supplies when needed, and help me with the family. Since the patient was very ill, the physicians decided it was the appropriate time to have a family meeting on how to proceed with care. Since this nurse knew the patient’s family better than I did, she offered to sit in on the family meeting to provide nursing feedback. I can’t express how much that meant to me and how much stress that relieved. This nurse really made my day go much smoother than the float could have.
