It was Michele Lieblang's first time taking care of a patient on CRRT. It was a type of dialysis that runs continuously and she was hesitant to take the patient but Vicki encouraged her and said that she would show her how it was done and stayed with her in case there were any problems. Michele took the patient who was very critically ill on top of this CRRT on numerous drips and on the ventilator. Vicki spent the first 2 hours with her not leaving the room showing her the details of the machinery and what to do if the alarm goes off. She went way out of her way to even help bathe the patient, wash her hair and helped turned the patient all the while giving her and the patient encouragement that they were doing well. Vickie was there the entire 12 hours which was way past the time she was scheduled to go home. She also assisted Dr. Allen and Michele in putting in a chest tube and doing a bronschoscopy all the while educating her and the family on each procedure. When she did finally go home she gave the staff her telephone number and stated "If there is any problems during the night don't hesitate to call me and I will come in and help you if need be". Vicki has such an excellent attitude toward patients and the staff and is appreciated by all. She is a mentor and a friend and what would critical care do without her!
