Wendy Douglas RN is an excellent example of a Daisy nurse. She is so patient and kind in her care. She lovingly explains to patients the information they need to know on their level. For example, recently Wendy was explaining to a new dialysis patient about his dialysis catheter and how to care for it. The patient was angry he had to have dialysis, much less care for an access site. Wendy was so patient, and allowed him opportunity to vent his frustrations. As he cried, she listened and reassured him. She answered all of his questions and made him feel like he was her only patient. She helped his wife understand the dressings and what complications to watch for. After the patient was satisfied he could manage his catheter, he took her hand and thanked her genuinely.
Wendy also spends a great deal of time educating other nurses on PICC and central line care. She is always so approachable and sincere. She has a great deal of education in her area of specialty and gives it to others in a way that is so easily accepted. Wendy is admired for her graceful presence amongst stressful situations she is often thrown into. She will stay over her shift to help with a line without complaint and says she’s glad to do it. She loves her job and it is exemplified in the customer service she gives her peers and patients.
