I went in for an unpleasant procedure. Unfortunately starting an IV is a challenging task with my veins. When I came in the week prior to check-in for my procedure, I told my check-in nurse that fact. I also said that last year I had a fabulous nurse, Wendy Jensen, who found a vein with the first try, a very unusual feat!
My check-in nurse said that she would try and get Wendy to help with the IV on my surgery date. When I arrived on my date, who greeted me at the door but Wendy right away. She gave me a hug, and I knew right then that all would be well. Wendy had been assigned to another patient, and she apologized for that, but when it was time to put in my IV, she was there waiting for me. Her compassion and her expertise are amazing.
Sure enough, Wendy immediately found a vein and I was only stuck once. Hallelujah! Then when I was recovering from my procedure, I woke up to see Wendy at my side waiting with ice chips. Her compassion for people is easy to see. She has a very loving and tender professional way. Great nurses make all the difference in the world. Wendy gave me such excellent patient care, that she comforted me and gave me peace.
