Wendy has been instrumental in the improvement of Maine Medical Center's Pediatric Critical Care initiatives. For years, she has worked diligently to improve the culture for families, children, and staff. She has been a vital part of creating the annual bereavement ceremony which recognizes the death of children in the hospital. For years, she has been involved in creating a PICU outreach bereavement program which has offered support to families of those that have died. Her seemingly tireless efforts have created significant forward motion for the aforementioned programs.
Wendy has more recently made a significant contribution toward the educational needs of the move to our PICU which recently celebrated its first year in our new home next to the Inpatient Unit. Many educational objectives were established and new needs arise almost continuously. Wendy jumps in to clarify needs and work on the problems. She has a matter of fact approach and addresses and communicates her concerns well. The result of her efforts has greatly improved care for the patients, families, and staff. Her modesty would never draw attention to her efforts. However, I felt compelled to share her efforts. She is truly deserving of this award which celebrates extraordinary and compassionate care.
