"We loved your nurses; Yulduz, in particular, made us laugh and we enjoyed her company so much that we forgot we were in the hospital. She was very professional and thorough, just an all-around great nurse. She could not do enough for me. Thank you for such a great nurse."
It is a rare, endearing, and high compliment when a patient tells the leaders of the hospital that they "love" an employee. Love is a verb that is typically used when describing an adored family member or very special friend. Yulduz has the innate ability to place a patient at ease, make them laugh and enjoy their hospital experience. That is a special gift.
We typically do not know a patient's personal situation. As we enter their hospital room, we are open to discovery. Many patients do not have family member to comfort them, other family members are out of state or country, or may not be comforting. There are countless possibilities. However, to be loved and bring comfort in a professional manner describes the epitome of a compassionate nurse.
By definition, a compassionate nurse is able to discern a need, provide comfort and help a patient feel safe, valued and cared for. Yulduz exhibited genuine compassion and was acknowledged by this patient as one whom emulated all of the DAISY® characteristics:
Making a special connection with a patient
Including patient/family in the plan of care
Delivering outstanding education
Collaborating to meet the patient's needs
Going above and beyond the call of duty
Providing individualized, compassionate care
Striving to achieve excellence.

According to charge nurses, Yulduz is a devoted team player who is known for extending a helpful hand to her colleagues. She is a seasoned nursing professional who is appreciated for staffing the unit on her days off, training new nurses and sharing her expert skills to insert an intravenous catheter in a patient with challenging veins.
