I am writing to nominate the 14L team of nurses, PCAs, and HUSCs for the DAISY Team Award for their excellent care of some of the most complex medicine patients. I am a hospitalist who works closely with the team and have had the privilege of getting to know the nursing leadership team and the bedside nurses, PCAs, and HUSCs. I have never met a team that is more dedicated to patient care and bringing their best to work every single day. The 14L team collaborates seamlessly with multiple other professions, including the oncology team, in caring for patients on chemotherapy, the palliative care team for patients receiving end-of-life care, and caring for patients with complex needs.

I would like to nominate the staff on 14L for the DAISY Team Award. I have observed firsthand the dedication and commitment the staff practice each and every shift. What makes 14L unique is the patient population and the ability of the staff to care for each population with compassion and skill. I am sincerely inspired by the staff on 14L- they are fiercely caring, thoughtful, and resilient. The RNs, PCAs, and HUSC have always been so collaborative and have consistently provided exceptional and patient-centered care.

It is my great pleasure to nominate the 14 Long team, and I cannot think of a more deserving group of nurses to receive this incredible recognition. 14 Long is a special unit with special people. Time and time again, our nursing colleagues on 14 Long lead the charge in ensuring patients are cared for in a compassionate and patient-centered way.

I wholeheartedly support the nomination of 14L staff for the DAISY Team Award. Caring for those at end-of-life is a specialty skill and the nurses on 14L have the additional education to support their level of competence in comfort care and palliative care. They provide great care and deliver care with an extra layer of compassion and presence. In my opinion, this makes the 14L nurses and PCAs exceptional at navigating this important transition in someone’s life.  This unique and beautiful culture of 14L is inspiring.

I have worked with 14L as a nurse leader for over 10 years. They are a unit with a healthy work culture. The 14L team has a culture that is willing to make things happen and make things work. They recognize their strengths as clinicians and the strengths within their team. There are a number of mentors on the unit and budding nurse leaders who have been recognized for their leadership and expertise. This is a unit full of experts, as there are many nurses with medical expertise available to solve problems in care, and their identity and pride as medicine nurses shine through. You can’t help but notice it when you are on the unit.

This year the DAISY Team Award should go to the entire 14L care team. The RNs, PCAs, and HUSCs have gone above and beyond to provide exceptional care to a very diverse patient population. Although our primary specialty is general medicine, 14L also cares for complex end-of-life patients with exceptional compassion. Our goal is to demonstrate excellent teamwork and 14 long embraces and strive to ensure that our patients are receiving the best care possible every single day.

Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
