LT Croke is an unbelievable teammate. Today I came on shift and heard the sad news that a patient we had been caring for had passed away right at change of shift. LT Croke, being the ultimate teammate she is, stayed until 2100 helping out with the patient and family. I was not able to be at the bedside as much as I would have liked, caring for 3 other patients and overseeing an LPN, however LT Croke was.
LT Croke selflessly stayed and spent time with the family. I walked in several times and was reassured at the sight of LT Croke embracing the patient's family and sharing some tears, providing the much needed human emotional support that sometimes gets overlooked. Once the family said goodbye (sharing more hugs and tears) LT Croke helped provide honorable, post-mortem care. This is one of the many positive experiences I have had with LT Croke. She is a highly sought after teammate, and leader on the floor. It's always a good day when she is on your team, 6 North is truly lucky to have her on the unit!
