Just about a week ago I watched the sun eclipse
But eclipsing in my body I didn’t see the risk.
The oxygen disappeared, but it was not my time to go
With God alone at the wheel somehow I made it home
But I was getting worse till ambushed with the phone
My buddy Al said, “Here, someone wants to talk to you.”
He handed me the phone and I said, “Hello, how do?”
On the other end of my phone and standing at my door
Were St. Louis paramedics, with ambulance and more
My brain no longer working, I couldn’t walk or stand
Then these faithful men took me by the hand
They strapped me in back and took me for a ride
To St. Louis U Hospital where they greeted me inside
They then took me to ICU to my room
Where they worked very hard on me, to keep this fool alive
There are so many names, everyone that I should thank
each of them are angels, you can take that to the bank
They strapped a horrible mask on me that forced out the bad air
Each one strapped me in their hearts with how much they care
There’s Jimmy if there’s anything I need during the day
And there’s Brandi who is handy, who treats my bad airway
And there’s Nick who is quick and seems eager to please
And there’s Kyle with a smile that sets my soul at ease
Don’t forget Randy who is handy and treats my breath at night
And all the others whose love shows through and shines so bright
My doctors are Mwangi from the wild west continent
The kingdom of Kenya where the last wild nature went
And doctor Abdulah all bright eyes and full of wonder
A young woman who will probably set this world on fire
And I know there are more, all too precious to ignore
And EACH AND EVERY ONE filled with this desire
To bring lives from the brink, save the dying souls
I know inside of every one of them they have these goals
Yes, this team of mine is part of a larger whole
Who all work together to make our bodies whole
Without their dedication, their drive and their desire,
We would be lost, our death rates would be much higher
So here at SLU where they revived me to myself
I want to say a “thank you” in the way that I know best
Not in a thank you card, but written in a song
And if God directs my pen, I know it can’t be wrong
I’ve left out some names, I know Tenisha springs to mind
But KNOW I have seen all of you, God’s love is not blind
So thank you all, God bless you, give you all his very best
May you all have happiness, God’s joy and all the rest
You took this fool who pushed himself nearly to the edge…
You’ve given me the will to step far back from the ledge
But eclipsing in my body I didn’t see the risk.
The oxygen disappeared, but it was not my time to go
