It brings me immense pride to put forward the exceptional 3West nursing team for the prestigious DAISY Team Award. This nomination stems from their extraordinary care, tenacity, and compassion for a patient who tragically suffered a massive stroke after elective surgery. This testimony is born from their tremendous dedication, professional acumen, and deep empathy displayed during this event and the following month post-stroke. The situation underscored the critical nature of open and honest communication -- a trait this team personified exceedingly well.
On this particular day, the patient transitioned from another unit around 5pm, and the team instantly noted discrepancies as compared to the condition the patient was in from the previous unit. They immediately initiated a Stroke Code, and each member of the team demonstrated unfaltering commitment to patient care, marshaled their resources, never hesitating to keep the family accurately informed, even in the face of distressing news.
They were decidedly patient and understanding, alleviating the anxieties of the husband and two young children as they watched their loved one's condition evolve. Staff calmly and delicately had the family move out of the room so the nursing team could help this patient. They not only clarified medical terms and details to the patient's husband, but they also comforted their anxieties, offering comfort in a time of undeniable uncertainty and fear. The excellence in care is not merely a slogan for this team - it is a principle they live by.
They showed unrivaled care for the patient's needs, delivering treatments promptly and constantly monitoring changes in the patient's condition. Excellence in care is a creed of this team, reflected in their unrivaled attentiveness and swift response in treating the patient.
Perhaps most impressive, though, was their manifest display of compassion and respect for everyone involved. When it became clear that the patient required specialized care, they fought tirelessly to immediately transfer to higher level of care, ensuring that no stone was left unturned in our collective quest for the patient's recovery. Their advocacy for the patient was outspoken and relentless.
Their compassion and respect were evident throughout. Despite the intense atmosphere, this team treated the patient and her family with genuine kindness, empathy, and dignity, demonstrating that care extends beyond medical treatment, embracing patients' and families' emotional needs.
In the spirit of collaboration, each nurse added their unique expertise, worked harmoniously towards a common goal: the patient's well-being. This exceptional teamwork and mutual respect underscored their collaborative efforts in providing an outstanding care experience.
