It is with pleasure that I would like to nominate the 4 South team for their extraordinary commitment to the nursing profession and the future of nursing through their continued support of the Pomeroy College of Nursing students and faculty. This team of nurses and healthcare professionals mentors our students during each clinical experience, making us feel like we are part of their team. Our future nurses observe all they do to promote the best in patient care and to promote community health through their actions, interventions, teamwork, caring behaviors, and more. The staff on 4 South collaborate with us, appreciating the uniqueness that the students bring to the clinical setting. They respect the different talents students and faculty bring to the bedside, recognizing our shared commitment to the people we serve. Our students observe 4 South's commitment to quality through their dedication to improving nurse-sensitive indicators and the patient experience. Every day that I am on the unit our patients tell me that everyone on 4 South has been wonderful to them. This is because this team provides excellent medical care but they also surpass expectations as often as they can. Whether this is simply sitting a little longer at the bedside, bringing a special treat to lift a patient's spirits, braiding their hair, recognizing a birthday, decorating a hospital room, and more, the staff on this unit recognize the importance of the human connection. They truly care about the people they are caring for, and they make a difference in the lives of the people they interact with: patients, families, students, and colleagues. I believe their ability to build relationships creates the trust that leads to better outcomes and patient experiences. I believe the compassion this team shows honors Patrick's memory perfectly.
