I send this to you a few days after one of the best and worst experiences of my life. My father was admitted to 4G post partial colectomy for 2 masses in his cecum and ascending colon. At 88, (albeit a spry 88), my dad was fearful of taking on surgery ~ especially as he has Factor VIII Hemophilia A.  His hematologist and had a strong plan in place for my dad’s care. Of course, during his hospitalization, my dad had a flare up of afib and he was struggling with his blood glucose levels, so another doctor stepped in and took care of it all.  As you can imagine, the coordination of care was complex, but I have NEVER seen Providers communicate so well with each other and the Nursing Team, not to mention keeping my parents, myself, and my 2 sisters. The hemophilia and scheduling/administration of the recombinant was the biggest concern of the family and your team kept things running smoothly throughout his stay. My mother is 87 and getting a bit frail ~ would not leave my father ~ so your team stepped in to assist us in making sure she was comfortable.

The Nursing Team on 4G was nothing short of incredible!  Days and Nights – the care was consistent, clear, and caring. People listened, assured my parents and sisters understood what was going on, and adjusted care so that we could be with my dad. I know there were many times that were underfoot, but as an Italian family ~ that is kind of how we roll, and the team rolled with us! Dietary worked with my dad on his needs after surgery, making sure he ordered just what he wanted as they bantered back and forth (she made my dad smile). Rehab helped him get up and moving and arranged for a walker at discharge. Pastoral Care visited and provided communion to my parents, which was a great comfort to them.

I know that there were so many people involved in Dad’s care from Monday – to Sunday (he kept bleeding, so he stayed a couple of extra days ~ we apologize if he was grumpy about that). Having spent 20 years at PPMC in various roles (including working with Nicole), I have always known PPMC to be a place that felt like home, but when something goes really wrong with a parent, the nurse in me changes into a daughter ~ and the team at PPMC (including the friendly staff in the cafeteria, Starbucks, and the fountain café) always made us feel right at home.

I hope you are as proud of your PPMC team as I am. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
