On December 10, 2025, the 4 South East (4SE) team became aware of an incredibly heartbreaking situation involving a family in crisis. A loved one had been admitted to the ICU in critical condition, and it was soon discovered that the family was facing extreme hardship with no reliable housing, transportation, or resources.
In the midst of this medical emergency, the family found themselves without access to basic necessities. Recognizing the urgency and humanity of the situation, hospital security and leadership worked to ensure the family had a safe place indoors. When the 4SE team was asked if they could assist, they responded without hesitation.
Deeply moved by the family’s circumstances—and during the holiday season, when many are already stretched thin—the 4SE team immediately sprang into action. Although the patient was not admitted to their unit, the nurses and staff of 4SE took it upon themselves to help.
Led by direct-care nurses, the team worked together quickly and compassionately to meet the family’s immediate needs. They provided access to a shower space to restore dignity and comfort. Team members gathered hygiene items, food, and supplies for the family, ensuring the children were cared for in a moment of overwhelming uncertainty.
In an extraordinary act of generosity, staff members pooled their own money and raised over $200 in less than an hour to provide financial support. Their kindness was immediate, selfless, and deeply impactful—offered freely with no expectation of recognition.
The 4SE unit is no stranger to challenges. It is a demanding environment with complex patients and high acuity care. Yet shift after shift, this team consistently shows up committed to delivering safe, high-quality care with compassion and professionalism.
Their actions during this crisis exemplify the very heart of nursing: advocacy, service, teamwork, and humanity. The 4 South East team embodied our organization’s mission of trust, dignity, respect, responsibility, and excellence in a moment of profound need.
