The second-degree Duquesne University Students nominated Matt, Ashley, Amanda, Dawn, and Mary for the DAISY Team Award.
While everyone was helpful and kind to the students Matt, Ashley, Amanda, Mary, and Dawn went above and beyond for the students. The students expressed that when working with these nurses they felt like a "real" nurse. They said that they were fully immersed in the patients' care.
One student said that Matt made her feel like she was a contributing team member and she also said while it was one of her hardest clinical days, it was the absolute best of the semester and she learned so much.
Another student said that Amanda was so knowledgeable, easy to talk to and approachable. She encouraged the students to ask questions and challenged them with complex situations. Another student stated that Amanda would always answer all of her questions and never made her feel dumb.
Mary would always be working night shift when we came in the morning. She was eager to explain and give the students a detailed report even after her shift was over. Before she left for the day the students said that they felt very prepared to care for the patients.
Dawn was always willing to talk with the students and make sure that they understood everything. One students said that she was so friendly and approachable that she felt that she learned more that day than normal.
Ashley was always checking on the students and myself (the instructor) and she would seek out opportunities for the students to experience. She facilitated the students' observing cardiac caths, ultrasounds, echos, and stress tests. These opportunities are absolutely invaluable for the students learning and very much appreciated.
