This team has changed its population in the last 1 1/2 years from cardiac patients to a short-stay population with variable diagnosis.  There are more medical patients on the units and bringing variety of new physicians to collaborate with to achieve their goals. Some of the unit’s goals are to improve discharges by noon, decrease length of stay, and ensure patient satisfaction.

To improve their discharges by noon, they have established relationships with new physician groups. One example of this is how they engage physicians to facilitate early discharges. To help aid in their patient satisfaction goals and reduction in length of stay, colleagues on this unit went through training to provide a variety of care to their new patients.  For example, several techs went through phlebotomy training to draw labs quickly when needed, and nurses went through training on care of new populations- such as patients with CBIs.

After being chosen by the organization to become the Short Stay Unit, this team willingly undertook additional training and established necessary relationships to continue to support the interests of patients, the unit, and Memorial Health.
