I would like to share with you a challenging experience that we had on 7M. An elderly family member of mine was admitted to 7M with Afib; while in the hospital, he became extremely agitated and not cooperative with staff,/belligerent to my surprise, and for unclear reasons (Early dementia with behavioral changes Vs. undiagnosed psychiatric issues). Eventually, he left AMA.
My family and I are beyond grateful for all the help and support we received from his RN Sabine and the charge RN Amanda. They handled this difficult situation with the highest degree of professionalism and understanding. They showed a lot of compassion and gave a true example of how to deal with difficult patients/situations.
They were very patient, took time to talk to the patient's family, and did their best to help. The AOD, Sarah, was amazing in the way she handled this. She was there throughout the event, talking and explaining to all family members and the patient. I want to thank Robin A., Michelle D., and everyone who was part of the code grey/rapid response; they were all phenomenal.
I can't thank you enough and big Kudos to all of you. My apology for the patient being so difficult, which was very unusual for him. It is only with such great nursing and staff that our hospital continues to provide an excellent level of care for our patients as I witnessed it myself as a family member this time.
