Over the past few years this team has come together to overcome many obstacles. Not only did the unit serve as a covid unit for many months this team also faced difficult challenges in their personal lives. Despite the dark times that the team faced at home, they showed up every day to pick up their coworkers and provide excellent care to their patients.

This team lost many members that were so close to them. They helped each other through unimaginable loss. Members of the team lost a grandchild, a husband, a father, grandparents, a child, as well as one of their own nurses as she fought so hard during her battle with cancer. This team never let these dark times keep them down. They continued to be each other’s support. They showed up every day putting the patients at the center of attention while they had their own battles.

This team consistently gets compliments from patients and family members. I could not count how many times a day we hear during discharge phone calls, nurse leader rounding, and surveys, “I cannot recognize just one person, they all were amazing, compassionate and you can tell they are here for more than a paycheck.” The team has faced staffing challenges and a reduced census on the unit while sending our extra staff to help other units be adequately staffed. This team once again is rising to the challenge to accept a new population of surgery patients. The team has embraced the change and is excited to care for this new population of patients.

No matter what the challenge or situation is they continue to stick together and make it through and come out even stronger. They are always working together as a team so they never feel alone, on many accounts they have had staff come from other units and compliment them on how well this unit works together and how welcoming they are, and their willingness to assist.

The past several years have been challenging for them, but they have made it through all these difficult times together as the amazing team that they are.
