The Cancer Center like many other departments had experienced some unexpected RN low staffing and was having a difficult time keeping up with the increase in treatment hours. While the Cancer Center was able to hire RNs, we still had a challenging time ahead with trying to orientate new staff and patient care. A group of 7th Medical nurses came together to volunteer on their days off to come and work in the chemotherapy room.
They were able to help us with many activities such as port draws, IV hydration, blood transfusions etc. Because of their assistance, the cancer center nurses were able to concentrate on orientating their new staff and on treating with chemotherapy.
This wonderful group of nurses was a great addition to our Cancer Center staff and has truly become one of the family:
