In fall of 2013, my father was transferred to your facility from another hospital. He would die shortly after midnight. This letter is to applaud your staff, especially one of your registered nurses, Aaron Quintyn.
Having served five years as a hospice chaplain and as a sheriff's chaplain, I am well aware of the wear and tear of the work of Critical Care staff. I presently teach and supervise our district diaconal staff as well as seminary student pastors, in particular working to develop them in the area of pastoral care. My comments are based on my professional background and personal admiration for this man's care and professionalism. As the day wore on, Aaron's strength and the level of care he showed to my mother, sister, and I was incredible. I have seen few spiritual care directors, never mind nurses or doctors, show such concern and care for a patient, and for his family.
In every way, Aaron made sure we were informed, and we were at peace, as best as can be expected, during such a situation. He treated my dad, who was not conscious, with incredible dignity, and even enabled me to step out of my pastoral role and simply be a son to both my mother and father. He even cared enough to acquire for my mom a quilt for the long night that awaited us, a great blessing she will not forget.
I cannot give any praise higher than that, that his work providing care enabled me to lay aside my 'normal role,' confident in his care for my family.
