Abbey Sandgren, RN

I had the opportunity to shadow Abbey as she cared for a patient that was cognitively impaired due to recently having a brain tumor removed. Following the surgical procedure, the patient was very forgetful and highly anxious. Post-operatively, the patient had an off-the-unit test ordered. Abbey offered to accompany the patient off the floor to help provide her comfort and make sure she felt safe.

Abbey did an amazing job caring for this patient which required an immense amount of time and patience. The patient told me that Abbey made her feel heard and validated. This was such a powerful statement and testimony to the great care and comfort that Abbey provided for this patient. Abbey took care of not just the physical ailments of this patient; she provided whole-person care. Her patience, empathy, knowledge, and compassion make her a true DAISY Nurse.
