I witnessed Abby Butler's connection with a challenging patient's family member.
Abby's approach was unique, she was able to read this person's emotional state and connect with her regarding the best interest of the patient. The care team had been having trouble conveying the message regarding poor prognosis and totality of treatments in a way the patient's wife could hear. Abby was the only one that was able to establish a relationship that opened the window for the wife to hear, understand, acknowledge, and act on the information the care team had been trying to share.
