On multiple occasions, patients and their families spoke well of Abby and her positive bedside manner and the care she provides for both the patient and their families. One story particularly stands out as an example of Abby's care for her patients during her time in our unit. Abby was assisting in the pre-operative care of an anxious patient preparing for surgery. She informed them of her positive experience at UMMC and was an excellent advocate for both the hospital as a whole and the care provided in our facility. The family stated that she provided a sense of comfort to them by telling them her story and the trust she had in the amazing staff and care at UMMC. The daughter of the patient approached me to let me know that Abby would make an amazing nurse one day. Abby also ensured she was on the unit early every morning to stock all the patient's rooms and help fellow nurses prepare for patient admits. Abby spent her free time voluntarily assisting the medical technicians with vitals and getting the patients settled. She was always eager to learn and would frequently look for new opportunities to learn new skills and perfect current skills. Abby carried herself with professionalism with fellow staff along with patients and their families by providing comfort during an intense situation.
