Not only did she facilitate quick movement of rooming the patient, but she also stayed at the bedside to help expedite the workup of this patient.
Strong, confident, competent, facilitator, caring, and timely to name a few characteristics of Abby Kuhn. An ambulatory patient presented to the ER waiting room with complaints of chest pain. Following an obtained EKG by the triage nurse, it was revealed that the patient was having a cardiac event. As the charge nurse on this particular day, Abby sought to implement quick affirmative action for rooming the patient and onboarding multidisciplinary teams. Not only did she facilitate quick movement of rooming the patient, but she also stayed at the bedside to help expedite the workup of this patient. It's one thing to carry out your duties as the leader of a unit, facilitating throughput and rapid turnover; however, it's another to stay at the patient's bedside (not of your own) to help aid as an assist to your co-worker and maximize patient safety and health. As the assigned nurse to this patient, I can easily attest to the due diligence process of Abby's contributory efforts in helping me stabilize, provide immediate support, and sustain life in this patient. It takes a very special leader who serves as support to her team, helps everyone stay on task, and mitigates long-term effects on the patient population as best as possible. Abby's critical thinking, enhanced skillset, and passion for nurse excellence on this unit have not only served as an example of what a good nurse should embody, but has also served as preventative measures against sentinel events among our patient population. I am not only proud of the leadership qualities Abby displays daily but also proud to work alongside her in this highly dynamic work environment. She is resourceful and an inspiring role model for us all.
