Abby made me remember that I was a person and not just another patient.
I was admitted to the hospital on October 7th, 2021, after having a heart attack, and I was moved from the Trent Acute Cardiac Unit to Papplewick Ward. Unfortunately, I was also diagnosed with kidney problems at the same time, and this prevented any heart procedures from proceeding at the time. On October 21st, 2021, I was taken to Theatres for an angiogram, but my veins were not good, so the procedure ended, and I returned to the ward. I felt really down and nervous, as I knew that the next stop would be a bypass. Abby came to check on me and told me not to worry and that I was in good hands. She has such a lovely and caring approach, and she knew exactly how I was feeling without me having to say anything to her. Her warm smile and lovely nature raised my spirit, and I felt calm during such a stressful time. Abby continued to keep an eye on me and talked to me about my friends and family, and kept me from feeling low. I thought that she really cared for my welfare despite being busy with other patients, and if I ever needed anything, she sorted it out instantly without a problem. Abby made me remember that I was a person and not just another patient. I have been allowed home for a short time before my bypass. Abby packed my bags and made sure I had all my medication, and reminded me of the importance of my blood test appointments. She brought my belongings to the door where my carer was waiting, and she commented on how pleasant Abby was to talk to. In these very busy times for all NHS staff, Abby is proof that our nurses are great. Without her care and lovely nature, my hospital stay could have been a bad experience. Abby was terrific and has such a warm, caring, and friendly nature, just what a heart patient needs
