Her compassion, kindness, and gift of her time were so memorable for me.
My husband has bipolar and was admitted to the Behavioral Unit in mid-December for a manic episode. He was there for two weeks and I spoke with many of the nurses and providers throughout his care; however, Abby sticks out as a nurse who really connected with me.

I believe it was Christmas Eve when I called the unit to speak with my husband and Abby answered. She said he was busy but asked if I had any questions, then proceeded to speak with me for about 20-30 minutes. I certainly didn't expect her to take so much time to answer any and all of my questions, to give me her insights, and to listen to my worries. Her compassion, kindness, and gift of her time were so memorable for me. I cannot imagine the patience that it takes to be a behavioral health nurse and Abby demonstrated incredible patience in answering my questions and in how she interacts with her patients.

Abby, you are the reason for this nomination but I know it takes a team. Thank you to all the nurses and staff on the unit - the work you do is amazing and takes a special calling to do it. You are appreciated more than you know; even if your patients don't express gratitude or their families, please always remember that you are making a difference and having a profound impact. I know that the days are long and sometimes thankless, but you are in our hearts and minds. Sending you strength during your difficult days and recognition when you need it most, from a grateful family member of a person with a serious illness whom it takes a village to care for. Thank you for being a part of our village.
