He decided to do one more round on the third floor but this time something told him to look in the toilets where low and behold the phone was sitting inside the toilet.
I would like to recognize Abednego for his unrelenting determination to help a veteran find his iPhone. On this particular shift, Mr. Abednego Tamba was caring for a veteran on 3SE who was being discharged to home. As he started to pack up his belongings and prepare for a ride home, he noticed that he could not locate his iPhone. When Mr. Tamba entered the room to give the veteran his discharge instructions, he noticed that he was upset. He asked him why he was upset, and the veteran told him that he could not find his new iPhone Pro that his wife bought him only a few weeks earlier. Mr. Tamba recalled a conversation that he had with the veteran earlier about this new iPhone Pro and how he was so excited to use it. He calmed the veteran by confidently telling him, “It’s ok, we will find it, it has to be here somewhere!” Mr. Tamba then began his search in all the usual places. Under the sheets, in the bedside drawers, in the bathroom, at the nurse’s station but was unsuccessful. He asked all the staff that could have possibly been in the room, and nobody had a clue. He called the kitchen to ask if they possibly found it on a meal tray but still no luck. He walked down to the patient effects office and made sure that they looked in their lost and found pile. After exhausting all possibilities, he called the patient's wife to make sure she didn’t bring it home and then had to explain to her that it was lost. Mr. Tamba did not give up and while he was walking the unit one more time, he recalled that the veteran was ambulatory and asked the veteran if he stooped anywhere while he was out ambulating. The veteran recalled that he may have used a public restroom but didn’t know what floor he was on. Mr. Tamba started to search in the restrooms even going down to the first floor. He looked in every restroom that the veteran may have come across. He decided to do one more round on the third floor but this time something told him to look in the toilets where low and behold the phone was sitting inside the toilet. Mr. Tamba did not hesitate and immediately used his skills to safely reach into the toilet and retrieve the new iPhone, clean it off, and attempted to dry it as much as he could. Miraculously the iPhone remained unharmed, and the veteran cried with joy and gratitude. I believe Mr. Tamba deserves this award because he used his valuable time to unselfishly go above and beyond and provide excellent customer served and set an example for us all.
