Abid Jamaludeen, Unit Manager, ICU & HDU
I would like to recognize Mr. Abid for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award in recognition of the exceptional leadership he has demonstrated since joining our department in September 2025.
In my years of nursing, I have worked with different leaders, but Mr. Abid stands out because of how genuine and approachable he is. He leads with professionalism, but at the same time, he never loses the human side of leadership. No matter how busy or challenging the day is, he remains calm, supportive, and focused on finding solutions rather than assigning blame.
Since he joined our unit, I have personally witnessed significant positive changes. He took the time to understand the challenges faced by frontline staff and actively worked with the team to improve processes, communication, and accountability. What I appreciate most is that he does not simply give instructions from a distance. He listens, seeks feedback, and involves the team in finding practical solutions.
One example that stands out was during a particularly challenging period when the unit was dealing with staffing pressures, high patient volumes, and operational demands. While many leaders would have focused only on meeting targets, Mr. Abid made it a priority to support the staff. He was present, accessible, and consistently checked on the team's wellbeing. His calm approach helped reduce stress and kept the team focused on providing safe and quality patient care. Knowing that our manager was willing to listen and support us made a significant difference in morale.
He has also fostered a culture where staff feel comfortable raising concerns and sharing ideas. Whether it is patient safety, workflow improvement, or staff development, he encourages open communication and ensures everyone feels heard. Because of this, the unit has become more collaborative, and staff feel more engaged and valued.
What truly makes Mr. Abid deserving of this recognition is his sincerity. His support is not limited to work-related matters. He genuinely cares about his staff as individuals and celebrates their successes while helping them navigate difficult situations. He recognizes good work, provides guidance when needed, and always treats people with respect.
Mr. Abid's leadership has positively influenced our unit, strengthened our team, and contributed to a better environment for both staff and patients. His dedication, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to excellence make him an outstanding nurse leader and highly deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
