Abbey’s willingness to help others is extraordinary and proves that she not only supports her colleagues but puts patients first.
We witnessed a Code Green called in the Emergency Department drop-off. We went outside and observed a nurse assisting a patient out of the car. The patient did not have a pulse and the nurse administered chest compressions with the patient on the ground until the Code Green team arrived. After the team arrived, the nurse shared that she actually worked on Stepdown and happened to be outside taking a discharged patient from her unit to their car. After the patient was taken to the ER, we expressed our gratitude to Abbey (we found out her name) and told her how she was amazing for jumping in to save the patient’s life without hesitation. We later found out that Abbey was done with her shift and stayed to help the nurse that relieved her. She did not want the nurse to get behind, so Abbey discharged the patient. Abbey’s willingness to help others is extraordinary and proves that she not only supports her colleagues but puts patients first. MetroHealth is lucky to have such a courageous RN!
