In the time of a pandemic, it is hard to pinpoint one nurse that stands out. However, there is something to be said about the nurse that takes that extra step to make sure that everyday care gets carried out at a time when we are so busy with COVID. Recently we had a super long-stay patient in the ER. After several days, it was obvious that she needed a little extra care. Abigail spent around 3 hours getting all the tangles out of her hair and then spent the next night making sure her hair got washed and she got cleaned up. On her next shift, she clipped and cleaned the patient’s fingernails. Abigail has a kind and gentle spirit that is calming to her patients. Abigail is seen many times making sure that patients’ needs are met and tries to make them feel clean and comfortable. She seems to have a knack for finding those patients that need that extra touch. Abigail is always willing to help her co-workers. She often picks up extra shifts to help the ER when they are short on employees. She tries hard as a nursing supervisor to be seen in all areas during the night and help them if it is needed. She volunteers to help with extra projects when she sees a need. Abigail is a very nice, hardworking, caring individual. The perfect example of a DAISY Nurse. She also developed a new patient care technician orientation course and has taught several of them already.
