Abby was assigned to take care of an intubated patient from Honduras, and the patient's husband only spoke Spanish. Abby was visiting with the husband about where he was staying and if he had help taking care of their two children. After learning about the hardship that this family was experiencing due to the mother's accident and injuries, as well as being so far from home with no family support, Abby took action to help them out. She called her mom to see if their church could help with housing and financial support so that the husband could be in the hospital with his wife.
After speaking with her mom and dad, Abby arranged for the husband to meet with her dad to obtain employment and he is getting assistance from her church during this difficult time. Abby is the perfect example of how to be a patient advocate. She is always willing to go the extra mile and shows her patients and family members compassion in their darkest hours.
