Abbie cared for my husband during the first week of his hospital stay. During this week our life changed dramatically as we found out that there was no more that could be done for my husband's cancer. As his nurse, Abbie's job was to care for him and his medical needs. However, she went above and beyond by taking care of not only him, but also me. One of our first nights here, she stopped her work, called to me as I was walking in the hall, and asked, "Are YOU okay?" Those three small words have never meant so much to me than at that time and moment. From then on, Abbie never failed to ask how I was doing and what I needed to make my time here easier. She took the time to get to know us, and it was clear that she cared for both of us as if we were family. She will forever hold a very special place in my heart.
