From the moment Abby came on the unit, she was nothing but great. As a person relatively new to mental health treatment, I was apprehensive at best. Her warm nature and relatability made all the difference.

Two instances come to mind. First, I was watching TV in the common area, visibly distressed and anxious. Most nurses would have turned a blind eye- not Abby. She took a seat next to me and opened up about her past struggles with mental health. Knowing that she, a mental health professional, dealt with her own battle eased my own worries. The sincerity with which she spoke was very assuring.

Some nurses treat patients like a chore and provide care that is obligatory at best. Abby truly cares about her patients, and that care is always present.

Another time I was talking on the phone with a friend and couldn't seem to stop crying. As I sat there, bawling, a box of tissues appeared in my lap. A small gesture, sure, but not to me. Abby always knew what I needed, medication or otherwise. She is more than deserving of a DAISY.
