Abigail Thoreson was taking care of a patient who was homeless and had lost all belongings when picked up by EMS. The patient’s phone, with family phone numbers, legal documents, and clothes, was lost. Abbi was able to use an app to locate the patient’s phone and belongings. She then went out of her way to drive to the location and found the cell phone along with the patient’s only belongings to his name. When Abbi presented the patient with his belongings, the patient immediately was thankful and profusely thanked Abbi for “saving his life.”
Abbi is a nurse that patients are lucky to have. She goes above and beyond her call to duty to ensure her patients’ needs are met. This patient did not ask Abbi to go look for his belongings. Her heart was so large, and she knew what she could do to help her patient. Abbi is a force to be known on the floor when it comes to showing our patients respect, empathy, compassion, competence, love, and care.
We are lucky to have her as a co-worker, and patients are even more blessed to have her as their nurse.
