June 2024 Honoree
Abigayle Link, RN
Last night, I came with my mom to the ED. Mom has moderate Alzheimer's and a vertebral compression fracture that sometimes causes severe pain. Abby connected instantly with us. It was a busy night, but she took time to listen to us and found ways to laugh with us. Humor helps. By the time a doctor saw us, he wanted to admit Mom immediately. Mom was exhausted, in serious pain, deeply stressed, and confused. She refused to be admitted and even refused temporary pain relief. The doctor and I tried reasoning. The doctor had to leave, but Abby came back, and somehow, without conflict, she persuaded Mom to let her bring a sandwich from the staff room. While Mom ate, Abby gently teased, openly laughed and shared stories of her family. Her genuine care was obvious, and she was able to find and share joy. She is the reason Mom was admitted without forcing a conflict.
Thank you, Abigayle, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
