Acalia recognized that we desperately wanted to go home today and she made it a priority to get our MD’s notified and f/u appointments scheduled, worked us into the PICC line schedule, applied the EMLA cream not 30 minutes, not 45 minutes, but one and a half hours pre-stick- because she and I know that is how long it truly takes to be effective (compassion!) She also was flexible and showed awesome leadership in training me on how to operate the PICC line- she recognized my skills as a nurse and a previously trained/experienced PICC line momma and so graciously refreshed my skills. Acalia also gave room to the student nurses to allow them to learn and grow.
