From the first words spoken to us, he was full of compassion, hope, and devotion to taking the very best care of B and our family.
I ask you to consider our Angel, Adam Fincannon, Registered Nurse, Critical Care Unit, Catawba Valley Medical Center, Hickory, NC, as a DAISY Award Honoree. He is an extraordinary Nurse and human being and so deserving of this honor in our eyes and hearts.
Our family gathered in the 5th-floor family waiting room. Here is where we met Adam Fincannon, RN, who was truly an Angel sent to us by God. From the first words spoken to us, he was full of compassion, hope, and devotion to taking the very best care of B and our family. Adam was constantly present with us, always answering our questions and explaining the test being conducted, what the monitors were saying, and joining us as prayers were made. Adam continued sharing his faith, his love for his profession, and his upcoming wedding to A.
The next day, Adam arrives with hugs and the results of the blood work. He goes on to share that this means the kidneys are trying to shut down. Tears, fears, and reality hit us hard. Adam returns and spends the last day and a half with us. He knows us well enough to know our hearts are very heavy, and with his medical background and compassion for others, he wanted to support us however he could. Our family decided this was truly in God's hands since our medical team had exhausted its options. As heart-wrenching as it was for each of us, we requested Adam to withdraw treatment and let it be God’s will for B. Angel Adam held us and said God works miracles, and we placed B's recovery into God's hands. Adam remained throughout to make sure he was there if B needed anything. As B passed, I wanted to keep his wedding ring. Adam Fincannon gently removed the ring I placed on B’s finger in 1972 and placed it on my necklace and around my neck as a reminder of the man I will love forever and into eternity, and the young man who, with love and dedication, traveled our journey with us. Thank you!
