I want to commend Adam Kistler for going above and beyond for one of our very special patients. In December 2019, we had an incredibly sad case. He was a young man with a terminal diagnosis who was also on active duty in the military. When learning the patient would be transitioning to hospice shortly, Adam went out of his way to bring the patient and his family an American flag to honor the military flag folding tradition. Adam presented a folded flag to the patient's sister and mother and placed it gently under the patient's left hand.
The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life. The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life. The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.
I'm proud to be Adam's coworker as he best represents what the CCU is about. His dedication, compassion, and kindness are exactly the kind of nurse we all should aspire to be.
