Yesterday, I was asked to share an experience that highlighted what makes Adam such an exceptional nurse. I initially found it difficult to put into words because qualities like efficiency, empathy, compassion, and patience are not always easy to capture in a single moment. However, after today's experience, the comparison became much clearer.
My 82-year-old mother, who has dementia, is currently undergoing testing, including an MRI. Yesterday, while working with Adam, he would not allow my mother to go to her X-ray until he ensured her blood sugar was stable, that she had eaten, and that she had used the bathroom. He even took note of her frequent need for the restroom and considered the timing of her therapy session before proceeding. His approach demonstrated not only clinical competence but also thoughtful, patient-centered care.
Fortunately, the transporter was understanding and allowed her to finish eating at her own pace. When I asked about taking my mother to the bathroom beforehand, knowing her frequent needs, I was told there was no time. This was concerning, given her condition and patterns.
I want to be clear that this is not meant to criticize, but rather to highlight the level of foresight and patient-centered care that Adam consistently demonstrated. He prioritized the patient over the process. He was transparent, calming, and attentive not only to the medical requirements, but also to my mother as an individual with specific needs.
As a teacher, I understand the importance of thinking several steps ahead. It is incredibly reassuring to encounter a professional who does the same within their role. Adam is an exceptional nurse and a valuable asset to your team.
Thank you for your time and for the care your team provides.
