In both clinical and classroom settings, Addison is a true team player.
Addison is currently a fourth-semester student in the SDSU College of Nursing program. Addison demonstrates an enthusiasm for learning and growing in the field of nursing. Her approach to her education with curiosity and confidence is not often seen. Addison has a spirit that is not afraid to ask questions and dig deeper. Notably, Addison is not only invested in her own learning but also in the learning and success of her classmates. In clinical this semester, she had the opportunity to attempt an IV start. She had already had an opportunity earlier in the clinical rotation and advocated for a classmate to have the opportunity. When learning new things, Addison asks questions and seeks feedback so that she can continuously improve.
Clinical instructors during Addison’s rural health experience note her ability to connect with her patients and put them at ease through a genuine compassion for them. Addison takes time to sit with a patient and their family, learning about them as individuals and creating a connection. When Addison doesn’t know the answer to a patient's question, she makes sure to find out the answer and then communicate the information to the patient.
In both clinical and classroom settings, Addison is a true team player. She demonstrates positive collaboration and interpersonal skills. Addison is always happy to help wherever she is needed, whether this is helping a nurse’s aide with a bed bath, helping another student take their patient on a walk, or working with a nurse on the unit to complete a task. Addison clearly communicates and, when collaborating, genuinely works for the good of the team.
Addison is not only a great leader, but also a great follower; a trait that can be hard to find. She is a dedicated nursing student with a passion for learning and for patient care. Her dream is to work as a nurse in a rural setting. Wherever she lands, she will be a positive influence on staff, and her patients will be fortunate to have such a compassionate nurse.
