This was a tough time for all of us and I truly felt Adina made the best and right decision for my mother-in-law.
My mother in law was on 5 west. She became suddenly very ill at home which prompted her to come into the hospital. All the RNs who were delivering care were all very nice however they weren't truly managing her condition as she was very short of breath. She was on 100% optiflow which as Adina put it, is basically like bipap. She said if Mom didn't improve she should be intubated to allow her to relax and get her breathing under control. She was barely maintaining a pulse ox of 87% when completely relaxed. A dinemap was being used to monitor her rate, this was in use for 3 days. Being an RN, I understand we often get "alarm Fatigue" and miss critical warnings. Adina not only informed me of the actual situation and what needed to be done but also called a rapid response to which my mother-in-law was intubated. I can't thank her enough for paying attention to the fact she needed this to survive. She also informed the nurse supervisor that a family member of hers worked in the ED. The supervisor reached out to me by phone and informed me that she was intubated. This was a tough time for all of us and I truly felt Adina made the best and right decision for my mother-in-law. A few weeks later she did pass in the CCU. Through it all, I remembered and appreciated her honesty and compassion she showed for my mother-in-law and for us. I can't say enough about how great of a nurse she is and that I hope others aspire to be the kind of nurse she portrays.
