Adria responded to a high acuity situation in the ED for a trauma that involved a pregnant mother. When Adria responded, the baby had been delivered and the doctors stated that the baby was a fetal demise. However, Adria insisted a baby of that age could still undergo resuscitation and rushed the baby to the NICU wrapped in a blanket in her arms. Adria took charge of the situation as the bedside nurse by administering medications and implementing nursing interventions necessary for a baby of 24 weeks gestation. Her experience helped her to act quickly while the interdisciplinary team worked on stabilizing the infant. Over the course of a few hours, she focused intently on this infant and remained composed even when the outlook was grim. She advocated for the infant and is the reason the baby had a fighting chance. There are many of us who look up to Adria for her knowledge and her ability to teach new nurses while also navigating high acuity situations. In emergent situations, she can be counted on to handle it calmly, methodically, and is able to delegate while concurrently educating those who are less experienced. She is able to anticipate the needs of various team members and is a large reason why this high acuity situation went as smoothly as possible. She is irreplaceable on our unit.

Thank you, Adria, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
